For the last several years, my friend Greg has invited me to be a part of a retreat for CEOs that he puts on in Beaver Creek, CO. It’s a fabulous event, and I learn so much from being around Greg and this exceptional group of leaders.

During the retreat, I am often invited to share some of my experiences. So, last year I sat down with my longtime adventure partner, Eric Alexander, and we recounted some of our most memorable stories, including our epic on Ama Dablam.  It was 2000, the year before Everest when we attempted a nearby peak, Ama Dablam.  In a freak accident, Eric slipped on a rock and fell 150 feet, landing on a tiny ledge. Miraculously, he survived, and while we didn’t make the summit, the situation undoubtedly galvanized our team and led to our greater success the following year on Everest.

Eric and I went back to Ama Dablam with an amazing team last fall and finally reached the summit … because if you fail at 30 when you’re young and strong, why not go back at 50 when you’re not so young and not as strong, right? Haha. Just kidding, there is a lot to be said for experience and wisdom and we have been fortunate to share such meaningful summits together in our lives.

Please enjoy watching our “fireside chat” from Greg’s retreat. I enjoy talking with corporate teams in this more intimate format, and it lends itself well to the virtual circumstances we are all in. I find it to be a more personalized and engaging experience for everyone.
