The Alltech ONE Conference celebrates innovation and resilience in agriculture and technology, and this year I had the privilege of sharing the first-ever double Alltech Humanitarian Award with my friend and founder of Not Impossible Labs, Mick Ebeling.

Video Description: A 60-second recap from the Alltech ONE Conference. It shows Erik and Mick receiving the first-ever double Alltech Humanitarian Award from Dr. Mark Lyons, Alltech’s current president and CEO. Mick is the voiceover for the video. The video also gives you more about Erik and Mick’s backstory and the connection between No Barriers and Not Impossible Labs. The Alltech ONE Conference & Awards

Nearly 2,000 folks from around the globe gathered in Lexington, KY for the event, while 5,000 others joined virtually to learn about better ways to farm, process, and produce food.

Like previous award winners Muhammad Ali, Steve Wozniak, and Bear Grylls, Mick and I were in attendance to talk about the challenges we all face and how technology can be harnessed to help us break past our barriers.

Not Impossible Labs

Mick and his teams have invented life-changing technologies for individuals of all kinds. Among many, this includes wearable devices that return the power of communication and expression to paralyzed people; give deaf people the chance to experience music in a tactile way; and enable amputees in Africa to afford to create prosthetic limbs for themselves. His work has disrupted issues surrounding homelessness, hunger, and mortality in young people … and he is continually finding new ways to use ‘technology for the sake of humanity’ to meet the needs of people and communities at home and abroad.
“We start by telling the story of one person, and then, telling the story of that one person, that’s what scales us to help many people.”
Mick pours himself into every project until a difference is made and the rest of the dominos start falling. I have known, admired, and felt continually encouraged by him and the work of Not Impossible Labs for nearly a decade, and now I owe a special thank you to Alltech and Dr. Mark Lyons for giving us such a beautiful award to share. It feels good to be in the remarkable company of others who envision a more inclusive, accessible world for all.
