I’m thrilled to share that Soundscape keeps winning awards at national and international film festivals, including the Creative Excellence Award at Banff Mountain Film Festival, Best Climbing Film at Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival, and Best Picture at Wild & Scenic Film Festival. Most recently, we even screened to a packed audience at the first Outside Festival in Denver, CO!
This imaginative short documentary is having such a great run thanks to my amazing friends Timmy O’Neill and Sarah Steele, the dynamic duo who masterfully brought the story to life as its writers, directors, and producers, alongside the wildly creative folks who contributed to the camera work, editing, audio, and more. Together, they beautifully captured the essence of the blind climbing experience through heartfelt storytelling and the use of unique and powerful animation techniques.
I’m also grateful to all the film festivals that have made a concerted effort to provide visual and hearing impaired audiences with an accessible in-person program in addition to an online accessible film package that gives audiences at home the ability to enjoy Soundscape via closed captions and audio descriptions. I especially love this because audio descriptions have allowed me to really enjoy movies, Netflix, Prime, etc. in a manner I just can’t without them. That extra narrator describing scenes makes up for a lot of the visual cues I don’t get as a blind guy, like seeing facial expressions or hand gestures or many other things that add depth to the script when I am listening to a film.
I hope you can catch Soundscape as it continues touring the world before being available through more platforms for more folks to watch and listen to from home.
