Global Explorers Applications

Global Explorers, the youth component of No Barriers, is seeking applications for its 2013 Leading the Way program. Next summer, teams will journey to two exciting destinations: the magnificent Grand Canyon and the beautiful Peruvian Highlands. These trips are fantastic opportunities and I highly recommend anyone that qualifies apply!Rim to River Expedition: Grand Canyon, Arizona

Kayak Training Continues

My first trip to the National Whitewater Center in Charlotte didn’t bode well. In the very first rapid, called Entrance Exam, I flunked when I flipped and ended up taking a long swim. I was completely overwhelmed by the chaos of the river and was on the verge of quitting and going home. But eventually I got back in my boat and kept at it. This fall, I made my third trip to the NWC and things are going swimmingly, which is to say I’m not swimming as often! One of the things that I love about this new sport is that reconnects me with the challenges and joys of the learning process.

Another Reason to see High Ground

My friend Malcolm Daly recently shared this great article from the New York Times written by Sebastian Junger (the author of WAR and co-director of Restrepo). It thoughtfully sums up many of the feelings that our veterans struggle with daily.

Soldiers Training, Part 2

Recently, we had the second training session for our Soldiers To Summits Cotopaxi program. What makes this so remarkable—and difficult— is that we aren’t just trying to achieve a mountain climbing adventure. I don’t want to pour my heart and energy into just helping people learn how to climb mountains. In itself, climbing mountains doesn’t help you change your life. You can stand on a summit and you’ve achieved something but it doesn’t mean that you’ve learned anything about life off the mountain. For S2S, climbing isn’t an end but a means to better things.

Major High Ground Event - Nov 2

When High Ground had it's world premier in Boulder, Colorado this spring, tickets sold out right away--and the film was voted People's Choice award at the Film Festival! Since then, there have not been any public showings of this incredible movie in Colorado.

Denver Post article on S2S

There's a great front page article on Soldiers To Summits in today's Denver Post. If you're in the area, be sure to come to the Bent Gate tomorrow night and meet some of the team!

High Ground Screenings Near You

If you are in San Diego, Austin, Washington DC, Seattle, or Houston, then you have an opportunity to see the movie High Ground in the first week of October. If you aren’t in one of those areas or if you can’t make the date already set up, then you can arrange to host your own screening.

Soldiers Heading South, Way South!

The Soldiers To Summits program is going to the South Pole! We are teaming up with Walking With The Wounded, a highly regarded charity in the United Kingdom, to send an expedition on a four week journey to the bottom of the planet. With the backing of Prince Harry (aka HRH Prince Henry of Wales), this exciting adventure will inspire people around the world.
