Last week, I attended a successful event in the US Capitol at the High Ground screening hosted by Congressman Jeff Miller. Though attendance by Congressmen was not great due to a Congressional vote that went longer than expected, it proved to be a good opportunity to meet some of our corporate sponsors.
Congressman Miller of Pensacola FL is Chair of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and has been a strong advocate of Soldiers To Summits. Although I live in Colorado, my mother's family resides in his district so we have a special connection. In addition, Congressman Jon Runyan of New Jersey, a member of the committee and former NFL player for the Philadelphia Eagles, gave some remarks before the film.
For this prestigious event, we also had three S2S soldiers attend: Cody Miranda, from the first expedition and featured in the movie, a Marine, reconnaissance, underwater diver; Nick Colgin, an Army medic who attended the second S2S program, who is just starting his own home health care business in New England; and Sarah Aktepy, a program manager for the Navy who is now teaching at Tidewater Community College in Virginia.
High Ground continues to draw huge praise wherever it is shown. This remarkable film dramatically portrays the struggles that our returning troops must face when they reenter the civilian world.
