Mixing Work and Pleasure

Spring is one of the busiest times of year for me as I speak to organizations all over the world. My crazy travel schedule often tears me away from my family for extended periods. So whenever possible, I try to mix a little pleasure with work.

Recently, I was speaking to executives at a major computer company near San Francisco. This was a great opportunity to bring my wife Ellie along for a mini-vacation. It was only a weekend but we did have a great time sea kayaking in Half Moon Bay. The wind was howling and the waves were a couple feet high in places. The guy we rented kayaks from tried to talk us out of it, saying it was miserable out there. That just made the adventure more exciting. Here are a couple of photos from that day.

In a few weeks, I'll return to Hong Kong for another talk. And this time I'm bringing Ellie and both of my kids! Hong Kong is an amazing place with beautiful jungle trails, mountain walks and Buddhist temples. Believe it or not, 70% of the island is undeveloped. The kids are missing school, but I think this is an educational experience way more valuable than the classroom.
