Check out this great TV documentary about Trevor Thomas solo hiking the Appalachian Trail, which extends 2,175 miles from Georgia to Maine. Shortly after he lost his vision to a rare eye disease, he heard me talk about climbing Everest. That gave him the inspiration to start hiking and doing things on his own.

Recently, I had a fantastic day of skiing with my nine-year old son, Arjun, and “Uncle Rob” at Copper Mountain. Rob is a longtime climbing, kayaking, and adventure partner and guide who has been with me on many trips over the years.

Recently, I have been focusing my training on whitewater kayaking, which is easily the scariest, most intense thing I have ever attempted. To maximize our training time, my partner and guide, Rob Raker, and I traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, home to the United States National Whitewater Center. We have great rivers in Colorado but what makes the NWC unique is the world’s largest pumped whitewater park. This incredible man-made facility, which opened in 2006, offers consistent water flows and rapids so it is ideal for practicing technique.

2 Blind 2 Ride

The thought of cycling 16,000 miles from the tip of South America to the top of North America is pretty daunting in itself. Now imagine doing it while blind! That's what Christi Bruchok and Tauru Chaw are currently undertaking. Christi is blind in one eye and is so short-sighted she can only read with glasses and within "sniffing" distance. Tauru had retinitis pigmentosa, which leaves him with sharp vision through a "toilet paper" roll during the day and totally blind at night. Both are legally blind. And together they are peddling a tandem bike across two continents.

S2S Director Charley Mace on Everest

Charley Mace, our Director for Soldiers To Summits, and a longtime climbing partner of mine, is bound for another ascent of Everest. He was with my team on the Hillary-Norgay route a decade ago and now he's going back to climb the West Ridge. This is the climb made famous by Tom Hornbein and Willi Unsoeld 49 years ago when they made the first traverse of an 8,000 meter peak.

Hong Kong Adventure

Recently I was asked to speak in Hong Kong and had a few extra days to play. So my friend Rob Raker traveled with me for some truly exotic climbing. We met another friend, Stuart Sharpless who owns Paradigm Consulting, which is a diverse company involved in corporate team building, adventure films, and managing the top adventure athletes in Asia. Stuart was a wonderful host who showed us some of the highlights of Hong Kong.

Kickstarting "Out Living It"

My good friend Michael Brown isn't slowing down. As many of you know, he is the award-winning producer who created "Farther Than The Eye Can See," the film about my Everest climb, and most recently "High Ground," the film about our Soldiers To Summits expedition that premiered last month. Soon, Michael's next project "Out Living It" will make its world premier at the Aspen Shortsfest. This new film follows young cancer survivors on a week-long kayaking camp run by the great organization First Descents.

Billy Mattison on the 2012 Adventure TEAM Challenge

Register for Adventure TEAM Challenge!

With this year's inclusive 2012 Adventure TEAM Challenge only two months away, I encourage all teams to register online right away. There is no charge to register your team and each of the five participants online and by doing so, you will help us prepare for the event. Once your team has registered online, World T.E.A.M. Sports will send your captain an invoice. All teams will need to submit half their team registration fee by Monday, April 2. The remaining 50 percent of the team fee must be paid by May 1.
